The Victoria Hotel & Source Spa

Let’s start with a positives majority of the staff are exceptionally polite and courteous. It’s got a traditional charm and high standards. The three course dinner and breakfast were delicious, highly recommend the food. The spa has been modernised to high standard but it felt overcrowded with only eight people memberships and hotel guests. Now for our negatives! we didn’t spend much time in our room on the Saturday night, we stayed in the lobby listening to band. At around 6.45am on the Sunday morning, I was woken by the people around walking around their room. The chandelier was shaking and the glass shells rattling, it didn’t stop until 8am by that time I was wide awake. Then, when we returned to our room after breakfast, the chambermaid knocked the door and went explained we weren’t ready get (about 9.30 - but 11am check out). I went for a shower and as I was getting out the chambermaid entered the room without knocking, very embarrassed as my mother-in-law was in her swim wear and I was wrapped in a towel, she just looked down and left the room without a word. Then about 30mins later she walked in again, she did say sorry this time, which I said you must knock before entering rooms. We went down to check out of the room but stay for our spa treatment. The manger said he would get the chandelier checked by the maintenance team as they wouldn’t want it to disturb anymore guests. We went down to the spa and waited for a treatments, which were very good. When we settled the bill the manager had taken a cup of tea off the bill £4.50. It was meant to be a relaxing spa night away, to be woken up so early and then made to feel we had to leave our room was not what I expected.

First rate cleanliness, friendliness and attention to detail. Spa and outdoor, heated pool well worth a visit.

Excellent in all respects except that our bedroom would not cool adequately to give us a comfortable night's sleep.

First time ever in Sidmouth what a wonderful 'time warp' place. Tons of independent shops and older persons style shops, quality all around, lovely esplanade and at far end perched on a slope the majestic Victoria Hotel AA 4 star and lived up to its rating. Superb service, high quality food and its position over looking the bay. One final bonus for us on day two was the afternoon tea.....we ate the night before in restaurant and it was just as well.......not a crumb stayed full up till next day so cheers to the staff for their very attentive service.

In a world of spin this hotel priorities service and quality throughout its delivery. We will be visiting again

My wife and I have been fortunate enough to stay at The Victoria on a number of occasions, the most recent being last week to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We stayed in a state room. The Victoria is a very special hotel with an ambience of excellence. The staff cannot do enough for you and always with a smile. I could tell you that the hotel is spotless and the food of a very high standard which it is but I wanted to acknowledge something we witnessed that demonstrates just how the hotel clearly looks after and supports its staff. At dinner one evening in the Jubilee Restaurant a young waitress was given an opportunity to record one quest's meal request on one of these hand held devices that you see used these days. It appeared that this may have been her first opportunity to use this device. The Restaurant Manager (Dawn) just stood off and watched her young colleague and when she was done and the order successfully taken and recorded Dawn simply gave her a pat on the back and said "well done." It would have given the young lady a lot of confidence. It was worth our visit just to have seen that. Dawn you were brilliant and a credit to the hotel and what it stands for. Cannot wait to come back which is already booked for September.
